Practical Atheist Begins 3/26 at Worship In The City

Practical Atheist Tease Video

A recent Gallup pole shows that some 94% of Americans believe in God or some universal spirit. 94% of Americans believe in God, but most live as if he doesn’t exist. What is up with that?

I believe in God, but I want to do whatever the heck I want to do. I want enough of God to keep me out of hell and enough of God to get me into heaven, but I don’t want so much of God that it makes me change my lifestyle because at its root I believe in God, but I don’t think I can trust my daily life to him. Sure, I believe in God, but I don’t really want to change my life. I believe in God, but I still want to have my kind of fun on the weekends. I believe in God . . . but I don’t want it to affect social life. I believe in God, but what the Bible teaches is out of date. I believe in God, but I live as if He does not exist.

Come join the Wesley Foundation at Georgia State as we begin teaching, studying, and talking about this tough topic. Please share this with your friends. This is an important conversation.

An Open Letter to Wesley Family and Friends

Dear Wesley Friends and Family,
It is with great excitement that I write to you.  The start of our school year is right around the corner and we are anxiously awaiting the start of our first semester of student programming. As you may – or may not – know, the Wesley Foundation at Georgia State was re-established this past February following a period of inactivity. We spent the spring semester working to get our charter back and doing the things necessary to gain the full rights and privileges of a student organization.

Throughout the spring and summer, I have received interest and support from churches and individuals throughout the North Georgia Conference and wanted to let you know that we are truly blessed and we wanted to say a word of thanks for all of the love, prayers, gifts, and thoughts. It is our mission to be an extension of the local church, and work to assist in the student’s journey of faith during this formative time in their lives.

As we look ahead to this new year, we are excited about the things God is doing in our midst.  We are expecting that our ministry will take root in and around the Georgia State community through deepening small groups, expanding fellowship opportunities, enriching worship, challenging programming, and extending connections to our community and local churches. Our prayer is that we will not venture this way alone, and that you will want to join with us on this amazing journey.  We invite you to check out our website (https://gsuwf.wordpress.com/) and join us on facebook (Wesley Foundation at Georgia State University) to stay connected with our ministry and what we have going on in the coming months.

Also, I am working on developing an online newsletter, not sure of the frequency yet, that we will send out to keep our family and friends aware of all that we do. We would love to send you our newsletter so if you would, please send me your email address at GSUWesleyFoundation@gmail.com to join our connection list.
If you would like to help and assist us in ministry, here are a few ways -
  • Let me know of any students you have either currently attending Georgia State or on the way to Georgia State.
  • Pray for our ministry and our students.
  • Provide food for our weekly evenings of study and fellowship – or donate the money and we’ll get the food.
  • Do you have a vacation home at the beach or in the mountains, we’d love to stay there – we would like to do at least two retreats a year and are always looking for cost-efficient alternatives.
  • Supermarket or gas gift cards.
  • Simple monetary gifts are appreciated.
  • Opportunities to come hang out with your ministry and discuss what the Wesley Foundation can do to partner with your church.
Again, we are truly blessed by the love and support we receive at Georgia State, and we hope that you know how thankful we are for each and every one of you who make our ministry possible.  As we look at the journey ahead and prepare to launch our programming this fall, we anticipate the new and glorious things of the year to come, and we are humbled by the amazing grace present in our midst – Thanks!
Blessings,
Tyler

Invite and Invest.

We are in the process of getting chartered right now and we need student members! Since we are just starting out, the opportunities are endless to contribute to the building of this ministry.

For the time being, what can you do?

Invite and Invest!

1) Invite your friends

  • What is better than experiencing life-change, serving God, and sharing all of this with other college students? Experiencing life-change right beside your friends, serving God with your friends, and sharing in this journey with your friends while you grow in community with new friends. We want to be student-led and student-built. This is going to happen, we want you to be a part of it.

2) Invest in our mission

  • What is our mission? It’s simple – We want to lead students into a growing relationship with Christ.
  • Most people see invest and think money. We see invest and think of buying into what we are trying to do. We mean investing your time, your energy, your talents, and your presence into God’s design for the Wesley Foundation.

Just imagine what it would look like if you and one of your friends gave INVITE and INVEST a shot. Now imagine what things would look like if we got this idea to grow. Just sayin . . .

Blessings, Tyler
